An Invitation!
Dear fellow advocates,
The province of Davao del Sur is considered to be one of the food bowls in Southern Mindanao Region. It also abounds in rich natural resources because of the organic and metallic minerals found in its soil. Priceless above all amongst the material riches of the province is its rich culture and heritage. The ethno-linguistic tribes of Bagobos, Tagabawa, B’laans, Tagacaolos, Manobos, and K’lagans are the dominant tribes in the province and are the only remaining tangible links to the colorful, historical past of Davao del Sur.
Presently however, the people of Davao del Sur are under threat due to the incursions of development projects and the entry of multinational corporations, including the aggressive expansion of agri-business plantations. Behind these so called development projects and gainful investments are corporate interests that will encroach on peoples’ lives, undermine our culture and destroy the environment. For those who take the side of the people in advancing genuine development, these machinations are called “development aggression”. It is the people’s duty and their advocates to preserve and protect our province from development aggression.
In connection with this, we would like to invite you to attend a Forum on Development Aggression in Davao del Sur on March 15, 2008. The forum will start at 1:30 in the afternoon at Molina’s Place in Luna Extension, Digos City. The purpose of this activity is to come up with a united effort of different sectors and advocates in confronting development aggression threats in the province through the creation of a broad provincial alliance.
Through this, we will have achieved the first step in advancing genuine development for the people of Davao del Sur.
